Industrial Waste Water

  • Waste water from the industries consists of process waste water combined with sewage. Sewage generated from the industries are not supposed to be treated by the industrial unit, if the sewage is leading to Sewage Treatment Plant. Therefore, entrepreneurs are supposed to treat waste water generated from the process.

  • Process waste water may be containing organic or inorganic or both kind of pollutants and it depends on nature of process and raw material used by any particular industrial unit. Each industrial unit generate its own characteristic and quantity of process waste water which comprises of the practices adopted, machinery used, manpower skilled / unskilled etc.

  • Treatability of waste water is decided after detailed examination of quality and quantity of waste water. Waste water treatment plant (also called Effluent Treatment plant) is designed and installed.

Effluent Treatment Plant primarily consists of following units:

  1.  Screen Chamber
  2. Oil and Greece Chamber
  3. Equalisation Tank
  4.  Flash Mixer
  5.  Coagulation Tank
  6.   Floculation Tank
  7.  Tube Settler
  8.  Aeration Tank
  9.  Clarifier (Primary and Secondary)
  10.   Sludge thickener
  11.  Treated waste water storage tank
  12.  Dual/Multimedia filters
  13.  Activated Carbon Filters
  14. Sludge Storage Facility

  • It is impossible to give tailor made solution for the different types of waste water generated from various industrial units. The above list is indicative and Effluent Treatment Plant needs to be designed as per the actual requirement at industry site after detailed examination of the process and effluent characteristics.

  •  Best practices, if possible, for improvement, to be adopted at first instance to minimise pollution load.
